MOOC “Teaching Grammar Communicatively” is available for everyone at no charge on the Canvas platform. This program will be enriched by the guidance of the English Language Specialist (ELSpec) Miralynn Faigao Malupa (bio note below) and Yana Surak, an alumna of this course and teacher of English and German, who will guide teachers through this MOOC on the Canvas learning platform. Both facilitators are expected to conduct online workshops refreshing the participants' learning each week, giving them more practical techniques and strategies, and answering any questions that participants may have about the content through a live session each week. The organizers will strive to build a network among the participants and facilitators.
Certificates: At the conclusion of the program the participants will receive certificates with details of the completed program. Only those who complete all program tasks and attend 80% of meetings will be presented with certificates. The organizers will allow participants to miss one meeting maximum to be granted an alumnus/alumna title.
Dates and Times: The instructors will hold weekly meetings, walking a closed group of participants through the MOOC. The course will be 6 weeks long (Week 1 – opening and orientation, Weeks 2-5 work on course modules, and Week 6 – closing and evaluation). The live meetings and the MOOC will add about 4 hours of work a week to your schedule.
The program will start on November 7 and conclude on December 18. The days and times of the meetings are as follows:

Yana Surak is teacher of English and German since 2011, comes from Russia, but lives and works in Belarus. She majored in these two languages at Mozyr State Pedagogical University. Yana believes that to be a good teacher, you need to love what you teach and love those whom you teach.
Miralynn Faigao Malupa is the English Language Specialist sponsored by the U.S. Department of State for this project. She has been in the TESOL field for 25 years. She has a Doctorate and Master’s in Education with TESOL concentration. Her research interests include teacher education (focusing on teacher discourse, grammar pedagogy, and reflective teaching), assessment, and online curriculum design. She has taught in a variety of ESL and EFL teaching contexts, including academic and government institutions. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Westcliff University in Irvine, California, USA.
